In 2009, I started in the MFA-Metals program at the University of North Texas. There I was exposed to printmaking and saw all the beautiful etched copper plates the printmakers stuffed in drawers after they were done running the prints.
Since my early work in metal involved a lot of etching, I was immediately drawn to this printmaking technique - intaglio. I saw right away how I was going to incorporate it into my metal work. And it would be cool to get some prints out of it along the way too.
I also stopped casting which I had been doing for the past few years. And I went back to where I began - sheet metal. Etching and riveting were my main focuses between 2003 - 2005, mainly creating bracelets and cuffs. So at this point, I was reverting back to the beginning with a more patient, craftsmanship focus.
My time at UNT also helped me bring out my unique vision in a more deliberate way.
